Urge your senators to co-sponsor DR Congo resolution

Background: The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s constitution, adopted in 2016, limits the president to two consecutive five-year terms. President Joseph Kabila has been in power since January 2001, and his constitutional mandate ended on December 19, 2016.

The political crisis in DR Congo continues to worsen and there has been widespread violence. About 4.5 million people are displaced inside DR Congo.

In January, Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) introduced a resolution urging President Kabila to hold free and fair elections, in order to ensure accountability and a democratic transition of power. Elections are scheduled for December 2018.

Faith reflection: As Christians, let us pray for people of DR Congo that “violence shall no more be heard in your land, devastation or destruction within your borders; you shall call your walls salvation, and your gates Praise” (Isaiah 60:18).

Action:  Take Action  to co-sponsor the DRC resolution.

Give to MCC’s Kasai emergency response.
