Support foreign assistance

Action: Ask your members of Congress to protect the foreign assistance budget.

 Take Action

Background: According to the Global Humanitarian Overview, about 135.3 million people are in need of emergency humanitarian assistance as a result of violent conflicts, disease and natural disasters.

The government spends one percent of its federal budget on foreign assistance, and one half of the foreign assistance budget is specifically dedicated to alleviating poverty, disease, hunger and meeting emergency humanitarian needs.

In June, the House approved $56.381 billion for the International Affairs Budget. Congress has not yet finalized spending levels for Fiscal Year 2020. It is important that Congress hears from you that you support funding to alleviate poverty and respond to disasters.

Faith reflection: Scripture admonishes us to “not withhold good from those it is due, when it is in your power to do it” (Proverbs 3:27). “Those who are generous are blessed, for they share their bread with the poor” (Proverbs 22:9).

Action: Ask your members of Congress to protect the foreign assistance budget.
