Dear Member of Congress,
As you work to reduce the deficit, I ask you to please support reductions to military spending and to maintain funding to address domestic and global poverty.
The U.S. military budget already far exceeds that of any other nation. Bipartisan deficit commissions and others such as the Sustainable Defense Task Force have recommended that as much as $1 trillion be cut from the military over the next decade.
We must break out of the cycle that says that unlimited military spending will make us safer as a nation, and instead prioritize caring for those who are most in need. In the long run this will make all of us much more secure.
