Are you interested in mass incarceration? The U.S. criminal justice system? Live in or near Pennsylvania, or have an interest to visit? Then come take part in MCC’s learning tour from Sunday, September 20, 2015 – 3:00pm to Saturday, September 26, 2015 – 12:00pm
Join Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) staff and partners for this week-long learning tour focusing on the challenges and complexities of the U.S. criminal justice system. Based in Lancaster County, PA, the tour will include day trips to Philadelphia, Reading, Lancaster and Harrisburg. The learning tour is organized and led by MCC Philadelphia program staff and the MCC U.S. restorative justice coordinator.
Participants will journey from the local community level through the criminal justice system, learning about law enforcement, sentencing, incarceration and re-entry.
All who are interested in learning about disparities in the justice system, including those working in or seeking to develop a prison/re-entry ministry, are welcome. The trip is limited to 15 participants. The cost is $440 per person, which includes on site transportation, meals, lodging and educational materials. Lodging will be provided at the MCC Welcoming Place, Akron, PA .
