The International Day of Peace is celebrated each year on September 21st. In Colombia, the work of MCC’s partner, Fundación Sembrandopaz (SowingPeace Foundation) was recognized in a special way during the week-long celebrations.
Based in Sincelejo on the Carribean coast of Colombia, Sembrandopaz has played a pivotal role in organizing community leaders, youth leaders and grassroots organizations in the joint effort that is required to do the difficult work of peacebuilding from the ground up. This year they were awarded the International Peace Prize from World Vision, acknowledging the difficult but important work that they do.
“We are much honored to receive this award,” says Ricardo Esquivia Ballestas, Sembrandopaz CEO, “and we will gladly accept it on behalf of all members of the community and community leaders with whom we work. It is their work that really moves us towards peace in Colombia. At Sembrandopaz we are blessed to share this work with them.”
An award for agencies, foundations or organizations that excel in the construction, development or defense of peace, this is the first time the International Peace Prize from World Vision has been awarded to an organization in Latin America. “The panel of experts has chosen to honor Sembrandopaz for its commitment and dedication to an inclusive, holistic and just peace, bringing the voices of youth to the forefront.”
We congratulate our MCC Colombia partner, SembrandoPaz, on this award and continue to support their work in holistic peace-building in Colombia.
