Action alert: Senate immigration bill vote Thursday or Friday

ACTION: Call both of your senators TODAY and urge them to vote “YES” on the immigration reform bill, S.744.

The final vote is expected to take place today (June 27) or tomorrow (June 28). Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 or find your Senators’ direct lines at www.senate.gov.

Sample call script:

“I am from [city, state, congregation], and as a Christian [as well as a teacher/business person/medical professional/parent/student/etc.], I urge you to vote “YES” on the immigration reform bill, S.744.

I was very disappointed to see the “border surge” amendment pass earlier this week. We should be working to address the root causes of migration rather than spending $46 billion on more walls, fences, and drones. However, I also recognize that the pathways to citizenship in the bill could help millions of our community members come out of the shadows, stay with or reunite with family members, and be better protected from exploitation while on the job.

Please vote “YES” for immigration reform and please work to mitigate the harm to border communities and ecosystems as the bill moves forward. Thank you.”
