What’s in a Constitutional Amendment to Balance the Budget?

The MCC Washington Office has posted a  fact sheet on the Balanced Budget Amendment as it passed the House Judiciary committee recently, and is expected to be voted on by the full House and Senate soon.

Occasionally, Congress considers amending the Constitution with a “balanced budget amendment”.  Although anything with the title “balanced budget” may sound like just what the country needs, in reality the current form of the balanced budget could harm a number of programs assisting low-income people, and make it difficult to respond to need during emergencies or disasters.
