Janelle Tupper writes about human trafficking for Third Way Cafe:
It is estimated that between 12 and 30 million people are held as slaves worldwide. The majority of victims are women, although men can be targeted as well. Children make up 50 percent of human trafficking victims, with thousands of children in the U.S. alone who are victimized each year.
Faced with this terrible injustice, we cannot keep silent. In 2009, Mennonite Church USA issued a statement on human trafficking urging education, responsibility, and action. The statement urges that, “As a body of Christ, we join our voices against all forms of human slavery. We commit to advocate for laws that protect victims and hold offenders accountable.”
