Rachelle Lyndaker Schlabach reflects on military spending for Mennonite Weekly Review:

In reality, the United States spends eight times more on the military than Russia or China, the next highest spending countries. In real terms, the U.S. spends more now on the military than it did at any point during the Cold War. Defense spending represents more than half of all discretionary spending, so it is hard to see how meaningful reductions in the deficit can be reached without defense cuts.
