Since the global commodity markets are loosely regulated, these companies and individuals are making billions from speculating on food while causing anguish around the world. Fundamental principles of demand and supply have not worked well in the commodity market.
The current laws do not go far enough to restrain large institutional investors from massive speculation in agricultural commodities. Tighter regulations are needed.
