The front page of the Washington Post today tells the story of Heydi Mejia, 18, who is finding it difficult to celebrate her high school graduation or to think hopefully about her future. She graduates on Friday. She is scheduled to be deported to Guatemala a few days later.
Heydi, like so many others in deportation proceedings, should be benefiting from the new Obama administration policies on prosecutorial discretion. Earlier today, several immigrant advocacy groups held a press conference detailing how the new policies have largely failed and calling on the administration to stop deporting DREAMers and separating families.
