Tammy Alexander writes for Mennonite Weekly Review:
Jesus was pretty clear: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Blessed are those who give food to the hungry, clothes to the naked, care to the sick. And blessed are those who welcome the stranger because, in doing so, they welcome Jesus himself (Matt. 25:34-36).
When it comes to how we treat the stranger among us, we should lay down our fears. We should welcome the immigrant standing in front of us just as we would welcome Jesus. Because Jesus was clear: That is exactly what we are doing.
